StarKist cares about your privacy. We want to tell you in detail about the policies and practices which we have adopted to protect your privacy so that you can feel confident about how we handle the personal information you choose to entrust to us online. What type of personally identifiable information do we collect and when do we collect it?
We only collect personally identifiable information and data, such as names, addresses, e-mail addresses, mobile phone numbers, photographs, hobby or activity information, demographic information (age, gender, etc.), household information (# persons, children, grandchildren -and ages), taste or preference information, product preference, shopping preferences, marketing preferences (such as your preference to receive from StarKist special deals and coupons, product information, healthy diet information, recipes, and/or learning tips on how to cook seafood), and the like, when voluntarily submitted by a Site visitor 18 years of age and older. Site visitors may choose to submit personally identifiable information to enter contests, to obtain information or submit a comment, upload a user created recipe with an image, to register for a loyalty program, or set up an Online Account.
What do we do with the personally identifiable information?
Providing personally identifiable information is up to you, our visitor. By providing us with your person identifiable information, you agree that we may use and share the information in accordance with this Policy. If you do not want us to use and/or share your personally identifiable information in accordance with this Policy, do not provide the information to us.
You can generally view and use the Site without providing any personally identifiable information. We collect and use personally identifiable information you provide to us, depending on the circumstances and your reasons for providing us with the information, to: enter you in contests and notify you of results; email, and mailyou with updates and news related to promotions, contests, product information and new product introductions, new recipes and meal solutions, including healthy diet information and related informational content from our celebrity spokespersons; respond to your questions or comments; register you for certain features; provide fulfillment services; enable product returns; understand product usage and preferences as well as cooking habits; understand and analyze in the aggregate demographic information about our customers such as gender, age and household details (# persons, children, grandchildren – and ages); and send out coupons, special deals, brochures, recipes, information and tips on cooking seafood, and other information on our products.
We ask Site visitors providing e-mail addresses to let us know if they would like further information, special offers or updates from our Site; only those who request it will receive follow-up e-mails or other communications from us. We may also ask if you would like to receive information about other products available from members of our family of companies or information and offers from our sponsors. Only those persons 18 years of age and older who expressly ask to receive such information online will get it. We also offer Site visitors an “opt-out” option at any time they wish to cease receiving e-mails or other information from us.
With whom do you share my personally identifiable information?
We use a third party information storage vendor to store and secure any personally identifiable information we collect from you. The vendor will not share your personally identifiable information in any manner inconsistent with this Policy.
StarKist uses an outside vendor to send out its email blasts to those Site visitors who have agreed to receive information from StarKist via email. As part of this, StarKist shares the email addresses and related personally identifiable information with in order for it to accomplish this task.
If you opt to receive emails about products and other relevant information from our family of companies, we will share your contact information with those companies so that they can contact you on our behalf.
We may also share your personally identifiable information with our business partners who are joining us in a particular promotion or activity and/or our marketing affiliates who assist us with compiling standard demographic and product usage information in order to help us with product improvement and development. However, we will never sell personally identifiable information that you voluntarily provide us to any third party. The information is used solely by us, our agents (such as advertisers and marketers responsible for compiling and analyzing this information for StarKist) or business partners to respond to your requests and to better serve you.
Although your personally identifiable information will not be sold, StarKist may disclose your personally identifiable information to an actual or potential acquiring party of all or a substantial portion of StarKist or StarKist’s assets through a merger, asset purchase or consolidation, or even through bankruptcy or similar proceedings. Such acquiring party shall be bound by contractual obligations to protect the confidentiality and privacy of the personally identifiable information disclosed to them and to secure such information in a manner consistent with this Policy. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquiring party of StarKist or its assets may continue to use your personally identifiable information as set forth in this Policy.
Other than what is listed above, your personally identifiable information will not be shared with any person or entity outside of StarKist and its family of companies.
Please note, however, that you may chose to reveal personally identifiable information in public areas of the Site such as when commenting on a posted recipe. For example, your name and/or city/town will be posted next to any recipe review you chose to post to the Site. Any personally identifiable information you reveal in the public areas of the Site can be viewed by other users of the Site, and you reveal such information at your own risk.
Does StarKist Collect, Use Or Share Information From Children?
No. StarKist only knowingly collects information, including personally identifiable information, from persons 18 years of age and older. The Site is not directed at, marketed to, nor intended for, children under 13 years of age. StarKist does not knowingly collect any information, including personally identifiable information, from children under 13 years of age. Does StarKist Collect, Use and Share Any Other Information?
Yes. StarKist uses cookies and tracks IP addresses.
Cookies are small text files stored on a user’s hard drive which contain non-personally identifiable information about the user. IP addresses are the unique code assigned to your computer as connected to the Internet. Neither cookies nor IP addresses generally permit StarKist to personally identify you. We use “cookie” technology and IP addresses only to obtain non-personally identifiable information from online Site visitors to provide them with the best possible personalized online experience. To do this we do keep track of the type of browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Netscape) and operating system (e.g., Windows, Macintosh) used by the Site visitor, and the domain name of the Site visitor’s Internet service provider. We also track the total number of visitors to our Site in an aggregate form to allow us to update and improve our Site; personally identifiable information is not extracted in this process. We also use cookies to help us figure out which of our web pages visitors stop at and how long they stay there. This helps us keep our Site fresh and interesting to the majority of our visitors. Cookie technology also helps us deliver content tailored to a Site visitor’s interests. You may disable cookies or set your browser to alert you when cookies are being sent. However, if you do disable cookies, we may be unable to optimize your visit to our Site. Note that your IP address and cookies are not connected to any personally identifiable or online contact information like a name and address, so you and your family remain anonymous.
StarKist may also collect and share with marketing information related to: (1) the number of persons who open StarKist’s email blasts; (2) what links and web pages Site visitors access; (3) how long Site visitors stay at certain pages; and (4) how Site visitors got to the specific pages (via advertising, email blasts, online banners, etc.) This information is collected in the aggregate, and is not connected to any personally identifiable information.
All of the above-referenced cookies, IP addresses and marketing information will be collected and managed by our outside marketing vendors.
Does StarKist ever collect information without consent?
StarKist does not collect information passively through cookies or other tracking mechanisms except in the circumstances described above. Cookies DO NOT contain any personally identifiable information about a specific Site visitor. We do not use cookies or other non-consensual methods to collect personally identifiable information or online contact information about you or your family off of your computer. Cookies are also not used to collect information specifically about you or your family for sharing with third parties.
How do we safeguard other personally identifiable information?
We have instituted safeguards to check that our internal procedures meet our high Policy standards. We also use our best efforts to be sure that third parties who work with us agree to protect personally identifiable information that they must access in order to serve our Site and our visitors.

What about links to other sites?
We may offer links to other sites; for example, coupons for StarKist and other fine products may be made available through a link to an agent that specializes in the distribution of online coupons. We may also include links in emails to you to our sponsors’ sites with special offers, promotions and information for our customers. It is our policy to try to link only with sites that share our views on privacy. Nevertheless, we are not responsible for the content or information collection policies of other sites. If you visit another site, you should review its privacy and other policies. You visit such other sites at your own risk.
What about changes to the Policy?
While we do not intend to make changes to our Policy very often, it is always a good idea to double check when you visit our Site to be sure that you have read and agree with our most current Policy. Our Policy’s effective date will always be set forth at the bottom of the last page of the Policy. Any change in our Policy will be prospective only. We will not make any changes that have retroactive effect unless legally required to do so.
